Easter is the most wonderful and mostT joyful. Festival in. tiie^whole of the Church's
year. We are lucky in England because it also coincides with Spring a new ,
outburst, of'life, and we can'decorate our Church with all the freshness arid"'
beauty of the spring flowers. .
The very centre of Christian worship is the Holy Communion Service and that is
where we should all meet on Easter Day,,.. . . :
The Church of England does not as a rule jive us. orders» It tells-us what is.
expected, of us, but does not compel us to obey. However, the Prayer-Book goes
as far as the Church ever does to -jive us some instruction about our observ-mce
of Easter, In the Prayer Book there are ;some general rubrics (or instructions)
set out in the Holy Communion Service and one of them sayss "Every confirmed
member of the Church SHALL communicate at the least three times in, the:..year j......._.;
OP WHICH EASTER IS TO'"BE "ONE." Nothing could be clearer,
I look forward to welcoming all of you to the Holy Communion - The.Lord's Supper
on Easter'Day at 9«30 a.m. at All Saints' or at St. Mary's at 0 a.m.. or 11.30 a.m.

It is with sorrow that we report the sudden death of Mr. Lionel Jo Edwards on
Sunday, 12th February, after a short illness. Mr..Edwards and his wife, Louise
Elizabeth, to whom he had been married for 52 years, had lived in Coleshill
since 1963°
We extend our deepest sympathy to his widow and relatives.
The funeral of.the late Councillor Dennis Hazell took place at ALL SAINTS CHURCH
Coleshill, on Saturday, 11th February.
Councillor Hazell was a pupil at Coleshill School and spent a great part of
his life in this village.
We extend our deep sympathy to his widow and family.
SUNDAY SCHOOL -•''• _ , •
After Easter the Sunday School will take on a different form, in conjunction; <
with the Magpie Club. Instead^of meeting on Sunday mornings during the service,
meetings will be held on a weekday after school. It was thought that the :
children would brin^ their own picnic tea and be prepared for games, activities,
a Bible story, discussion or quiz. In doing this the committee hope to cater for
a larger age group of children. Details will be announced later.

The latest news from Magila gives us more information about our baby, John Martin.
He is an Asian by birth, well built, with curly brown hair and brown wondering
eyes. He is beginning to walk and insists on feeding himself though he gets
covered with food. He evidently has plenty of character.
Warmest thanks are due to all who contributed so generously to the Christmas
gift for the babies in this special unit of the hospital. I was delighted
to be able to send them £16. I have also four blankets waiting to be despatched
and a good collection of Green Shield Stamps.

Just before Christmas we sang carols at RushjOBad as a Company plus solos, duets
and trios.
For our - better late than never - Christmas Good Turn, we entertained at Grove •
Mill, a group of elderly ladies and gentlemen and their helpers from Contact,
to tea on 22nd January. Guides preparing the room and making cakes, scones,
etc. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Contact is an organisation which
has groups of 12 peoples one a leader? who once a month takes 12 elderly and
often housebound people out to tea to different hostesses. We can thoroughly
recommend anyone to be a hostess, all you need is a good heart and twelve chairs
plus a little tea, they have small appetites. Their address is Contac/j; '

At the end of last term Eileen Davis, Jane and Joanna Swerling, Wendy Williams
and Anna Horsbrugh Pbrter left us, they were all original members when Brownies
started up again five years ago in Coleshill. We wish them all the best of luck.
Paula Mead came up from Brownies to join the Kingfishers. Anne Bullough is now

Beryl Smith, owing to advancing (!) age will be.leaving us at the end of the
term but in the not too distant future we hope to welcome her as a Young Leader
with the Brownies, where I am sure she will continue to give freely her valuable
and cheerful service.
On the 4th February we. had hoped to cook outside and go tracking but it teemed
with rain so we practiced household crafts including making^ marmalade for "'the
apprpaching Coffee Morning for County funds, cooking sausages, scones and
pancakes inside. v

Sinceiast-reporfTn^ our news, we produced a Christmas play at the beginning of
December, I felt that both Brownies and their audience enjoyed and were., moved;by
the rather-different:portrayal of the eternal Christmas message. After the play
about 70 people sat down to a delicious tea. : ' . • _ •.

On December 22nd we sang carols and..delivered.:.logs.'and..':sco:nes to some of the older
residents of the vi.liage.^ December 29th was a-Mystery morning. About 40 children
played .a .variety of games, we had a flower''demon'st rat ion ajid some instruction in
drawing and,then some of the: energetic one:s; went on.'a cross 'country run.
Our Christingii- Service went off very well.,and.39 children received a christingle.
On January 3rd some of the older members had a meeting on their own at Grove Mill and

COLESHILL DRAMA GROUP .:,..:.. : : . . . , . . . . - . . . . . - .-..:;....,..
Christmas came early to Coleshill on the 9th and 10th of December "because it was in
the evenings of those days that the Village Drama Group presented "The Heiress" and
a new "star" appeared in the Village Hall.
LINDSAY HAUBNER, playing the part of Catherine, daughter of .Dr. Austin Sloper,
JOHN HORSBRUGH-PORTER, was - in a word - wonderful*- living the : part and, in 'So doing,
taking the audience with her.
The action of the play took place in the front parlour of Dr. Sloperfs house in
Washington Square - a set well created and constructed by RICHARD FARMER, who, jointly,
with HELM KITCHEN managed the stage in a masterly fashion0 Maria, the parlour-maid,
to the Doctor, played by DIANA MAYNARD, left nothing to be desired* ..,.'. v.:;.':'.'
As the story of the play developed and the .plot thickenedf SQ the cast came more
and more into their own; something the people of Coleshill have now come to expect,
but that does not prevent' my mentioning how well ANN CHENEVIX-TRENCH and PATSY
WRIGHT-WARREN played their parts as. Mrs» Lavinia Penniman and Mrs Elizabeth Almond,
the sisters of the Doctor. .
The "love at first sight" situation portrayed by Morris Townsend - STEPHEN KITCHEN -
was convincing until - and there is always an until - action by others led to a
sudden change in events happily to come right in the end, due to the intervention of
Mrs. Montgomery, Morris Townsend's sister, played by DORA POST, and Arthur Townsend —
HUGH JONES - Morris's cousin. The situation was further complicated by Marion Almond,
niece to the Doctor,;;played by RITA RAM. ' The sound effects were very well matched
to the action, although on one occasion the bells of the nearby church sounded
"awful loud".
If the Coleshill Drama Group go on as has been evidenced in.recent-years, It can
only be a matter of time before a Green Room is required, there being many I am sure
who, like me, wait'impatiently for the next production even if this is based on
an American theme with the risk of "gum" on the stage,
I cannot end without a tribute to the director, DAPHNE FARMER, to PAT EMBLOW and
her assistant, PEGGY GOW? for the superb wardrobe, to HUGH JONES and JULIE BURTON
for the lighting and last, but by no means least, to JOY CHALK and ANN CHENEVIX-TRENCH
for the make-up. All in all.a wonderful production by a wonderful team.

THE COLESHILL CLUB " ....... 7
The Coleshill Club had a varied autumn, starting with the A.G.M. in September, during
which it was announced that the Treasurer, Mr. Harry Kennerell, .would be retiring
after three years of office, and that Mr'. Thorn was willing to take on the post.
Mr. Thorn was duly elected and we are; grateful both to Harry for his work for us
in the past and to Mr„. Thorn for his help now and in the future.
In October we had a most interesting talk, illustrated;with slides, by Mr. Everard
about his travels in North Africa; November was games and competitions which we
enjoyed. On'December 5th we were invited by the Coleshill Brownies to a party.
First they gave a delightful little Christmas play and then served us all a most
delicious tea. Thank you Brownies>
In December was the Christmas Partyt We started with carol singing led by Mrs* Monk
who accompanied and led us on the piano, giving us a lovely feeling that Christmas
was just around the corner, which indeed it was5 the date being the 21st. We then
had a most delicious tea prepared entirely by the committee, followed by a Free
Raffle at which most people seemed to win a prize. Then Penny Weedon entertained
"tts^with her lovely singing and playing on her little organ and we kept her at it
as loirg~as-_we \c,ould, only breaking up finally about 6 p.m.
In January, Mr. Caffyn, from Tutills in Chesham, talked to us about his firm where
they have made flags for England of every sort and description' for nearly a century,
and the questions after the talk went on for half an hour, we were all so interested.
February brought Mr» Hazel, also from near Chesham, with a talk about wild flowers
and birds and animals in Bucks, illustrated with some of the most beautiful slides
and clo.se--ups of flowers that we had ever seen.
We end on a sad note at the news of the enforced resignation of our Secretary,
Mrs<> Wingrove. She has been in very poor health for some time now and feels that
she can no longer carry on in this office. Mrs,, Weedon has kindly offered to help
us for the present moment until we are able to find another Secretary and we are
very grateful to her* Our love and best wishes go to Mrs. Wingrove; we thank her
for all her devoted work in the past and hope very much that she will still be able
to join us at the meetings when the weather improves and, we hope, her health also.

COLESHILL CRICKET CLUB
DANCE - FRIDAY 10th MARCH, This will be held in the Village Hall from 3.30 p.m.
to 1.00 a.m. Tickets including Buffet; £1.40.
Some time in April there will be a. SPONSORED RIM .around the cricket field. Forms
will be issued later,, '
Friday-October 20th - Provisional date for Dinner/Dance at Bell House, Approx £6 per head.
The Jumble Sale held in January produced a sum of £113} which was very satisfactory.
