My Dear Friends,
At All Saints' you approved, 'some time ago, to use the order of Holy
Communion usually referred to as "Series". It is worth looking at the
preface set out to this Service vhd ch says - "this Service is authorised
for experimental use in the Church of England for a period, not exceeding
four years from 7th July 196? under the provision of the Prayer Book
(Alternative and other Services) heasure 1965. Its use is governed by
Section 3 of this measure, the relevant portion of which reads as follows:-
"A form or draft of a form of Service approved under either Section
One, or Section Two, of this measure may not be used in any Cathedral,
which is a Parish Church, or in any Church in a parish without the
agreement of the Parochial Church Council of the Parish or in any Guild
Church without the agreement of the Guild'-.Church Council".
The following notes are added;-
(a) Sections not preceded bv thj Sjtcibol £S> arid material in brackets
may be omitted,,
(b) The printing of prayers iu short lines shows that, the People
should or may join with the Priest, • . • .
(c) The People should say or sing responses printed in italics.
I cannot emphasize too strongly, as the Bishop of Oxford has repeated
many times, this Service IS the experiment and we are not authorised to
experiment i""th it. • .
You will notice at the end of the Service para. 38 "but instead of
the foregoing dismissal, or in addition to it, the Priest may say the
Blessing". Most People feel that something is missing if the Blessing
is left out so I always give it,,
I would like to thank those of you who have read the Old Testament
Lesson and the Epistle and compliment them on their performance.

MEMORIAL - MR. CYRIL SAUNDERS.
It is hoped to have a memorial in the Church for Mr.. Cyril
Saunders, who served the Church so well.
An appeal for this will be circulated during the Autumn.
ST. MARY'S C. of E. AIDED PRIMARY SCHOOL.
St. Mary1 s School for children aged 5-11 is shortly to be enlarged
for children from 5-12. At the moment there are 299 children in the
School and it is expected shortly to have nearly 400 children.
The cost of the building extension will be £50,000 and if it is
to remain a Church School, as we hope it will, the Diocese and Parish
will have to raise 20% of this amount - £10,000.
It is the great hope of the Parish that sufficient support and
incentive will be forthcoming to maintain St. Mary's School as a
Church School.
BRASS RUBBINGS.
To-day in England, brass rubbing is firmly established as a
popular and absorbing hobby and the exhibition at St. Mary's
17th - 19th July was an attempt to raise funds for the better
preservation of the five 500 year old Amersham brasses which in
1968 were removed from their familiar places on the walls of
St. Mary's as part of the current restoration of the Church.
All five brasses had been divorced from their original slabs
by "restorers" of the last century and it is hoped to re-lay the
brasses on the floor. The replacement of these slabs is the most
expensive item in the restoration, the total cost being something
in the region of £500.
Originally conceived on a modest scale, the exhibition has
gradually grown to its present size, embracing a total of 65
rubbings. Selection was made from the whole country and there
is a rubbing of the most famous of English brasses - Sir John
d'Abernon.
With five exceptions, all are the work of Bruce Campbell of
Croxley Green and Liverpool University who made the rubbings of the
Amersham brasses in 1969.
SUNDAY SCHOOL OUTING.
The Choir and Sunday School outing to lattlehampton will
be held on Thursday, August 6th, and coaches will leave Coleshill
Church at 8 a.m.
Contact should be made with Mrs. R.C. Pusey (Amersham 4073)
for seats on the coach.
HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
Mrs. E. Smith has consented to open the Annual Show of the
Coleshill Horticultural Society on Saturday, September 12th.
Entry notices should reach the Hon. Secretary or any Committee
member not later than Wednesday, 9th September, on the official ;
form. Entry forms can be obtained .from the Hon. Secretary or from
any Committee member nearer the date.
There are two slight changes in the schedule for 1970. The
entries for classes 23 (cauliflowers) and 30 (sweetcorn) have been
deleted as there have been no entries for the last two shows, and
three new classes have been introduced in a new Section to provide
an opportunity for wider participation. The classes are: Dried
Flowers, Floral Art and Posy - artistic and decorative, and need not
be own grown.
VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE
On Tuesday, July 7th, the Chairman, Mrs. Ovington said that
in view of the competition "The Best Kept Village", urgent steps
had been taken to tidy the surrounds to the Village Hall which
looked like a jungle. To prevent it falling into a similar state •
it was agreed to try to engage someone who.would keep it tidy from
time to time. The question of litterbugs arose who leave their
mark everywhere, and the Secretary was asked to write to the Parish
Council with a view of curbing their activities.
Repairs to the Hall were authorised and the following arrangements
made:
Fri. Oct 2nd Rummage Sale - People are asked to set on one side
disposable treasures which they can spare.
Date to be arranged Dance kindly arranged by Mr. Mountier.
Fri. Dec. llth Whist Drive.
Next Committee Meeting - Tuesday, 22nd Sept. at 8.15 p.m.

thanks for your generous gift of money I have received on
leaving the Sunday School, prior to beginning College. I
have enjoyed every minute of our time together and feel
that it has put me in good stead for my future career as a
teacher".

CONTRIBUTION FROM A MEMBER. OF THE AMERSHbM
AND CHESHiM BOIS CHORAL SOCIETY
It sounded an exciting prospect to be invited to take part in
the T.V. programme "Songs of Praise"'at St. Michael's Church, Amersham,
recently.
Together with 79 other members of the Choral Society, 80 children
from the four local Secondary Schools and many others from St. Michael's
congregation, I attended 4 long rehearsals during the previous two weeks.
Then came the camera rehearsal the night before the recording; we sang
a huian, sat down for 20 minutes, sang another, sat down again, etc.,
while the T.V. Floor Manager walked to and fro listening intently to
a voice through his headphones. At intervals, he would look up,
stare accusingly at the singers for 10 seconds, then walk on again.
The 3 huge cameras rose and fell, turned and swooped in a fascinating
way (but we had all promised faithfully not to look at them). From
scaffolding all round the inside of the Church, dozens of enormous arc
lamps poured the dazzling light and heat down on us, and we decided
that summer dresses were in order for the actual recording the following
evening.
On that evening, with Peter West introducing the hymns, we sang
our way through tho entire programme with no interruptions, only to
be told - "That was the final rehearsal - the next time will be the
real thingl" So we sang it all again and then the Producer appeared
and said "I'm sorry, but something went wrong behind the scenes, we'll
have to do some of it yet again"! which we did, growing hotter and
hoarser and more exhausted with every verse. Finally, at 10.15 we
were told that it had all been very successful.
Some of my friends are looking forward to seeing themselves on
T.V. at 6.45 p.a. on August 2nd. ..........Me? ,1 spent the evening
singing my heart out immediately behind three men, each over 6 ft. tall.
I didn't see a thing, and I'm. quite sure the camera didn't see me.

COLESHILL C. of E. PRIMARY SCHOOL.
At a recent meeting of parents in Coleshill concern was expressed
at the contemplated re-organisation of Coleshill School and it was
agreed to lodge a protest with the appropriate Department. Accordingly
the following letter was sent to the Permanent Under Secretary of
State, Department of Education and Science> over the signature of
some 70 electors.
"We, the undersigned, being electors of Coleshill, wish to
object most strongly to any re-organisation of Coleshill
C. or E. Primary School, which will so drastically reduce
numbers as to make the School a less workable unit than at
present.
It is understood that at the time of the intended
re-organisation, Coleshill will become a First School,
taking children from the ages 5-8 years only, and if
this is so, the numbers will fall considerably down to
possibly less than 20.
From the point of view of future pupils we do not consider
such low numbers would provide the best conditions in which
to start school, and we therefore earnestly ask you to
reconsider the decision to change the status of the School
from one taking infants and Juniors to an Infants School only.
Our greatest fear is, of course, that should some parents
send their children out of the village to school, and the
numbers become lower still, this would mean closing down
of the School altogether, which would be a disaster for the
Village as the School and its activities form an integral part
of village life. It is incomprehensible that these perfectly
good school buildings cannot be put to their full use, when
all over the area new buildings are being added to existing
schools because of shortage of school places."
