My Dear Friends,
Whitsuntide is the birthday of the Church and we ought to celebrate
it wholeheartedly. Certainly, first of all, by making our Communion on
Whitsunday (this year June 2nd) and if that is not possible, by attending
some service that day at Coles-hill or the Parish Church. Coleshill services
on Whitsunday will be:
9 a.u. Family Communion 10 a,m. Sunday School 6 p.m. Evensang
This always seems to ne a great turning point in the year. ¥e have
followed the life and work of Our Lord for six months. Now full of the
gift of the Holy Spirit we try to imitate that life. The second six
months of the Church's year - no great highlights and festivals now, just
the daily round, the common task done well.
The next meeting of All Saints' Committee will be on Tuesday, June -
llth at 8p.m. preceded by a School Managers' meeting at 7p.m.
You will not, of course, forget the G-arden Fete on Saturday,June 8th.
The Reverend SonalcL Arthur Thomson, M.A.(Cantab) has accepted my
invitation to be Curate of Anersham with special responsibility for Coleshill
and will begin his duties on Whitsunday.
Mr. Thomson is in his middle thirties and for the last five years
has been a Chaplain in the Royal Air Force. He is married and has a
family of two boys aged 9 and 7 and twin girls aged 3. I am sure you will
all give Mr. Thomson and his family a very warm welcome and help them all
you can in his new job and ne?/ home.

CHURCH FLOWER ROTA
The Church will be decorated for Whitsun on the afternoon of Friday
May 31st commencing at 2p.m., when the help of as many volunteers as
possible will be appreciated. Flowers etc. should be brought to the
Church that morning if possible.

The following beautiful prayer, which was used at the nenorial service
to the late Miss Howard, is reproduced at the request of members of the
congregation:
Keep us, 0 Gfcod, fron all pettiness; let us be large in thought, in word,
in deed.
Let us be done with faultfinding and leave off all self seeking.
May we put away all pretence and meet each other face to face without
self pity and without prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgement, and always generous.
Let us take time for all things, raid uake us to grow calm, serene and
gentle.
Teach us to put into action our bettor impulses, straightforward and
unafraid.
G-rant that we nay realise t-iat it is the little things of life that
create differences, that in the big things of life, we are as one,.
And, 0 Lord &od, let us not forget to be kind. Amen.

was read at the service. Ib is bolieved to have been written by Mary,
Queen of Scots.
Mr. and Mrs. Gales Howard tt.ce the opportunity to express their
very sincere thanks for the great kindness and sympathy they have received
and for the beautiful flowers which were sent to the memorial service.
Their thanks are specially due to the organist and choir who
helped to make the service so memorable.

Mrs. ¥ycliffe j?aylor
By the death of Mrs. ¥ycliffe Taylor on May 13"ch at the age of 98,
Coleshill has lost not only its oldest inhabitant but also a very generous
friend. Though illhealth necessitated her leaving Coleshill about
a year ago, up to that time she was a well known figure in the village
as she went for her daily walk, cone wind, come weather.
She was a devoted member of /ill Saints Church and a nost regular
attendant at its services. She was also a Manager of the School and
its correspondent for many years. In countless ways she was a benefactor
of both Church and village and her death has removed-from us a nost
intrepid figure - the last remaining link with a generation that has

As you know, the Church Fete will be held this year on Saturday, June
8th at Little Bowers, Magpie Lane, Goleshill, by. kind invitation of idr &
Mrs. Raymond Pusey and will be opened at 2.30p.n. by Mrs. Elkerton.
Admission I/-. Children 6d.
The object of the Fete is to raise funds to pay for costly repairs to
the vestry roof and the Conuittee appeals for donations, which should be
sent to Mr. Creber, for gifts in kind, which should be sent to stallholders
and organisers of the tombolas and raffles, and for cakes for the teas,
which should be sent to the Mothers Union.
The Couriittee hopes for a large attendance on the day and extends advance
thanks to the helpers, the provisional list being as under.
A marquee isbeing hired for the day and the fira concerned say that
they will do their best to put it up on the Friday. If thoy cannot do so,
they say they'will erect it early on Saturday norning, and helpers are
asked to keep in touch with events and act accordingly.

At the well-attended A.G-.M. of the Residents' Association on 2nd
May, the Chairnan, Mr. S. Clifton, announced with regret that at the
last ninute Mr. Christopher Hall had been prevented fron attending
and speaking about the work of the Chiltern Society, of which he is
honorary secretary.
In his report, Mr. Clifton said that the Committee, which had
net six tines during the year, had studied plans submitted to the
Rural Council which concerned Coleshill and had considered then with a
view to preserving the general character of the village.
The Connittee had asked the Bucks C.C. to prohibit very heavy
lorries coning through the village except on legitinate business but
had had no success, and had registered a protest against what they
considered to be a waste of ratepayers noney when one foot was added
to the Beaconsfxald/Anersham read fron white Hill to the Magpies.
They had also protested to Mr. Ronald Bell, our M.P. about the
additional burden falling on Bucks ratepayers as a result of the
amalgamation of the police forces of Bucgs and neighbouring counties,
Mr. Bell had promised to air the views of the Counittee when the
natter is raised in the House.
Mr. Clifton referred to the proposed switching station at Mop
End. A public enquiry had been held but the Minister had not yet
given his decision. He has, however, asked the C,.E.G-.B. to have a
closer look.
It was pleasing to know that the Bucks C.C. was preparing overall
development plans for certain villages although as yet Coleshill
was not one of the selected villages". Again Goleshill had been
graded the Best Kept Village in its class and it was hoped that the
high standard would be naintained.
Mr. Clifton concluded by-referring to the recently published
clarification about the legal position of the Connon; registration
under the 19&5 ^°"t was superfluous as it was subject to a schene
under the Connons Act 1899.
In this connection a nenber referred to a report that further
work on the Connon was contenplated to consolidate that already carried
out and asked that the Association should nake representation
that the Connon should not be developed in such a manner that it
would attract undesirables and a congestion of notor cars,
Mr. Clifton said that this was a natter for the Parish Council
and Mr, Curling said that such a situation was scarcely likely to
arise as the Parish Council had only a linited auount of noney with
which to keep the Counon in good order and nake apart available for
children.

The officers and Connittee were re-elected and tributes were^ paid,
in particular to the work carried out by Mr. Clifton as Chairman, Mrs.
Stevens as a nost energetic hon. secretary, Mr. H. &rindley as hon. treasurer
and Mr. Ware who had helped so nuch in keeping the village and the
surroundings of the pond tidy.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
At the Annual G-eneral Meeting of the Society held on May 3rd, the
hon. secretary, Mr. Rann, presented a draft set of rules which, after
discussion, were adopted. In brief, the rules prescribe that the objects
shall be to encourage and promote interest in all branches of horticulture
and to hold annual shows at the discretion of the Connittee. Membership
shall be open to any adult resident of Coleshill and the payment,
of an entrance fee to any show shall constitute a membership subscription:
alternatively, the subscription shall be I/-. Donations in sponsorship '
of the show shall be deemed as subscriptions if the donors so wish.
Management shall be vested in the executive officers (Chairman, hon.
secretary and hon, treasurer) and an executive committee of not less than
five elected members (with power to co-opt), all of whom shall retire at
each A.G-.M. and be eligible for re-election.
The following officers were re-elected: President, Mr. E.H.&rindley,
Chairman, Mr. J. Cossey; Hon. Secretary, Mr. M. Rann; Hon. Treasurer,
Mr. E.A.Post, and it was agreed to hold the annual show this year on
Saturday, 14-th September. It was also agreed to apply for affiliation
to the Royal Horticultural Society.
Members present took the opportunity of tendering their congratulations
to the Officers and Committee upon the success which they made of
the 1967 show. It was no easy task to follow Mr. Jerram, who had dedicated
so many years to the task., lifter that, the Officers and Committee
had given much time and thought to the constitution of the Society, resulting
in the rules adopted that day and a vote of thanks was passed to
them with very great enthusiasm.

Adrian Stickley, elder son of Mrs Stickley of Salisbury.

THE LAT3 FRED ALDRJLDGE
The beauty of the flowering trees planted by the late Fred Aldridge
in Coleshill reninds us of one of the village's best known gardeners,
who passed to his rest early this year.
The rock garden at Rushynead was far faned for its loveliness and
on his retirement he brought the sane love of perfection to his own
garden. The beauty he has left is a fitting memorial to hin0
RUBBISH
It was reported at a neeting of the ^.iorshan R.D.C. that recent
publicity has resulted in.a narked increase in the requests for the renoval
of bulky refuse. Much use has also been made ofJthe facility of
depositing refuse and old cars at tho London Road Depot.
In the first 4 weeks of the present financial year 29 old cars have
been dealt with, compared with a total of 103 in the whole of the previous
12 months, and 124 requests for special collections have been nade
in the same period compared with 384 in tho previous 12 months.
